What size solar system did you install? I see some homeowners in New York have virtually zero electric bill with solar panels, and they have sunlight like 50% of the year. Phoenix, AZ has sunlight 300 days of the year (assuming 65 days roughly for monsoon season), so I would have imagined solar out here would be 100% free. We have a new home that's about to be finished in it's build, and it's 1 story so more roof surface space. Definitely wanted to setup something that makes charging 2 electric cars and power the house entirely all year free from electric bills. Even if I get charged during monsoon season, hoping to have credit built up with the electric company that just pays those bills when they arrive, with a payout at the end of year.

Not worth it. Solar panels are designed to work with an ambient air temperature of 75-78 degree farenheit. Hotter or colder and their performance greatly diminishes. The solar cell materials also make a difference and the majority of what is used today is substandard reducing the life expectancy even more. If you live in a cooler climate like the northern US the panels will last longer, but the lack of nice weather means you don't get the full benefit either.

For most people, investing in the stock market is a far better investment than putting up solar. I have done the math over and over and over, and saving a hundred dollars a month on electricity just isn't worth what that same money would be worth by the time the system is paid for. For people that do it to be green, better to invest in a utility company that has a commitment to renewables or nuclear, because they can do solar at a far cheaper cost per KW hour than the homeowner can, and they also invest in wind, which is not something most homeowners can do. (Now to be fair, where I live, the prices for solar installs seem to be far higher than for smaller western towns, but even then, investing in the markets will make you much wealtier in 20 years than the savings you would get from solar.

Probably the worst video on Lake Havasu I have seen. You missed so many things like the fact that there is also a Safeway supermarket, also it couldn’t be that hot because there would have been a bunch of boats cruising the channel, Chico’s Tacos is awesome and there are so many other great restaurants, and the fact that Havasu is really like two towns, a snowbird destination in the winter and a boater’s paradise in the summer! You need to either spend more time there or don’t claim to know the city!

Sam, no expectations are not a bad thing. Reality takes care of the rest. Never been to Fiji, Never been to a destination wedding 3 trips to Australia and I've lived on 2 remote islands, so it always seems glam to those who don't live there on a day to day basis. Chalk it all up to an adventure and getting outside of your comfort zone ;)
